The community of Decatur is mourning the tragic and untimely loss of 26-year-old Alexandra Wilson, whose life was taken in a devastating shooting on Valentine’s Day. According to the Decatur Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 1700 block of North Summit Avenue around 5:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Christian Luthy, who was present at the home, contacted 911 and reported that he had accidentally shot Alexandra. Court documents obtained by WAND News reveal that Luthy had been working on an AR-15 style rifle in a gaming room while Alexandra was seated nearby. He reportedly told police that, after finishing, he “jokingly” pointed the firearm at Alexandra and pulled the trigger, believing it was not loaded. Tragically, a live round struck her in the torso. She was immediately transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Luthy was taken into custody and charged with involuntary manslaughter, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
