Mary O’Regan Calgary, AB Death, Obituary: Calgary Longtime Rider and Devoted Advocate, Passes Away

Mary O'regan Calgary, AB Death, Obituary

CALGARY, AB — The cycling community in Calgary is mourning the loss of Mary O’Regan, a longtime rider and beloved member of the Tour family whose dedication, generosity, and spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Mary participated in the Tour nearly every year, missing only its inaugural and most recent editions. Even when she chose not to ride in 2025, she remained deeply involved — stepping into a volunteer role to support fellow riders during event weekend and assisting with rider package preparation at the Tour office. That was Mary: if she wasn’t riding, she was giving her time in other meaningful ways.

Her commitment to the cause was deeply personal. Mary rode in memory of her former husband, the father of her children, who passed away from mesothelioma. She also rode in honour of her two sisters and niece who have faced cancer. Her efforts were fueled by love, resilience, and an unwavering desire to make a difference for families navigating similar battles.

Proudly riding with the Tom Baker / Arthur Child Cancer Conquerors and Team NOV, Mary achieved Tire Track qualifier status in both 2022 and 2023. Over 15 years, she raised more than $75,000 to support Albertans affected by cancer. Yet those who knew her say her true legacy goes far beyond fundraising totals. She was a steady presence, an advocate for others, and someone who consistently showed up — without hesitation and without needing recognition.

Outside of cycling, Mary embraced life with enthusiasm. Whether riding her bike or skiing the slopes, she cherished the outdoors and lived with boldness and gratitude. She had a remarkable ability to care for those around her, offering encouragement, friendship, and quiet strength.

Mary’s passing leaves a profound void within her family, her teammates, and the broader community she served so faithfully. She will be remembered for her generosity, her compassion, and the countless lives she touched along the way.

As loved ones grieve, they take comfort in knowing that Mary’s impact — built on service, love, and resilience — will endure. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of giving and unwavering support will never be forgotten.
