The Conroe community is grieving the tragic death of 72-year-old Mrs. Kate Autry, who was killed in a collision Tuesday evening at the intersection of Grand Village Blvd. and Town Park Drive. Her sudden passing has left family, friends, and neighbors deeply saddened.
According to the Conroe Police Department, officers responded at approximately 5:03 p.m. to a serious crash involving a single pickup truck and a pedestrian. Immediately following the collision, the driver and bystanders administered life-saving measures while awaiting the arrival of Conroe Fire Department and EMS personnel. Despite these efforts, Mrs. Autry was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigations by the Conroe Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit indicate that the pickup truck was traveling westbound in the 300 block of Grand Village Blvd. As it turned southbound onto Town Park Drive, Mrs. Autry was crossing eastbound within the marked crosswalk on the south side of the intersection. Investigators are evaluating whether glare from the low western sun may have contributed to the collision. At this time, there is no indication that excessive speed or disregard for traffic control devices played a role.
Family members, who are residents of Grand Central Park along with Mrs. Autry, were notified and present at the scene. The Conroe Police Department, along with Chief Jon Buckholtz, have extended their heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family, friends, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.
Mrs. Kate Autry is remembered for her presence in the community, and her sudden passing serves as a solemn reminder of the fragility of life. The thoughts and prayers of Conroe residents remain with her loved ones during this profoundly difficult time.
