The Wharton community is grieving the tragic death of 53-year-old Jerald Jermaine Jackson, who was fatally injured in an early morning assault on Thursday. His untimely passing has left family, friends, and neighbors struggling to process the sudden loss.
According to the Wharton Police Department, officers responded at approximately 3:03 a.m. to a report of an assault at 1510 Martin Luther King Blvd. Upon arrival, they were directed by 51-year-old Quinton Jubbar Farris to Jackson, who was found unresponsive and bleeding in a grassy area near Farris’ home. First responders immediately provided aid while awaiting the arrival of Wharton EMS. Despite these efforts, Jackson showed no signs of life, and he was pronounced deceased at 5:26 a.m. by JP-4 Drapela. An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary reports indicate that Jackson and Farris were involved in a physical altercation during which Jackson sustained stab wounds. Farris was detained at the scene and later booked into the Wharton County Jail on a charge of murder. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
