Tre’ Johnson, Orbituary, Death: 🕊️ Remembering Tre’ Johnson: Former Washington Redskins Star and Beloved Educator 🕊️

The sports world, education community, and countless friends and family members are grieving the sudden and unexpected passing of Tre’ Johnson, a beloved former NFL offensive lineman and respected high school history teacher, who died at the age of 54 while on a family trip on February 15, 2026.

Tre’ Johnson’s life was defined by excellence on the field, compassion off it, and devotion to his family. Born on August 30, 1971, in New York, Johnson rose through the ranks of youth and collegiate football to become an elite lineman. After starring for the Temple University Owls, he was selected in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders (formerly the Redskins). Over the course of his nine‑year professional career — including a stint with the Cleveland Browns — Johnson played in 93 games with 72 starts, earning Pro Bowl honors and a second‑team All‑Pro selection in 1999.

Johnson’s presence in the trenches was formidable. Known for his strength, intelligence, and physical dominance, he became a cornerstone of Washington’s offensive line, helping pave the way for some of the franchise’s most memorable moments in the late 1990s and early 2000s. His work ethic and determination earned him respect from teammates, opponents, and fans alike.

After retiring from professional football, Tre’ channeled his passion for mentoring into education. He served as a history teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda, where students and colleagues admired his dedication, insight, and ability to connect with young people. He was beloved for instilling curiosity, confidence, and integrity in his classroom, shaping young minds just as he once protected quarterbacks on the gridiron.

Tragically, Johnson’s life was cut short while on a brief family trip. In a heartfelt message on social media, his wife, Irene, shared that his passing was sudden and unexpected, leaving their four children — Chloe, EJ, EZ, and Eden — in shock and profound sorrow.  Though the exact cause of his death has not been disclosed publicly, it was noted that he had recently faced health challenges that had led him to take a leave of absence from teaching.

Off the field, Tre’ was known as a devoted father, loving husband, and loyal friend. He relished his children’s sports activities, shared his passions for riding motorcycles and caring for French bulldogs, and found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of family life.

Tre’ Johnson’s legacy transcends his athletic achievements. He was a mentor, educator, teammate, and role model whose impact will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he taught, coached, and inspired.

🕊️ Rest in peace, Tre’ Johnson. Your strength, generosity, and legacy of leadership will never be forgotten. 🕊️
